Indrani Bhuyan

Indrani trained and practiced as a doctor for years before finally deciding to give expression to what was always within her...her love of beauty and colors and art as a healing process...by translating her imagination into jewelry as a creative dialogue with herself and the world.

It started partly with her love of everything beautiful to sustain her during her training as a young doctor in the older part of the city of Delhi in India. In her free time, she would get lost among dusty narrow lanes of the Old City, with its old buildings and shops and wildly beautiful colors, venturing into the ancient silver market, learning slowly, over time, the art and trade of stones and precious metals. Discussions would follow with her older sister, an avid collector of jewelry and her mother, who told them stories of heirloom jewels....her favorite being how her grandmother would have the goldsmith sit in front of her myopic eyes to get Burmese rubies, deep as pomegranate seeds, set in a gold necklace for her daughter’s wedding. She loved tinsel and sparkle and color and rustle and silk and warmth and stories.

And today, she is a jewelry designer based out of NYC, whose jewelry is an expression of who she is, her stories!
